Opera Lyra Ottawa’s mandate is to produce and present opera productions in the National Capital Region of the highest quality; to promote opera as an art form and make it as accessible to as large a segment of the population as possible through community outreach and education; and, wherever possible, to encourage, nurture and support Canadian artists.
Operating within this mandate, Opera Lyra Ottawa’s artistic vision is to be the premiere opera company presenting classic and modern masterpieces, both in our region and beyond. Productions that encompass a level of performance and community service to inspire and enrich the many constituencies that we serve - the general public, our audiences of the present and future, arts community stakeholders, and the artists, craftspeople and staff who have committed their lives to opera.

Opera Lyra Ottawa (OLO) is one of the largest independent arts organizations in the National Capital Region. The company dared to be Ottawa's first professional opera company in 1984 and now, twenty-two years after staging our first production, Mozart's one-act opera The Impresario at the York Street Theatre in Ottawa's Byward Market, Opera Lyra Ottawa is proud to be presenting two mainstage productions each year on the prestigious stage of the National Arts Centre's Southam Hall.
Opera Lyra Ottawa provides employment and training opportunities for musicians, singers, stage hands, directors and young artists of the highest calibre from across the country and abroad to present its fully staged operas and various small-scale operas and concerts each season. Creative vision, tenacity, and strong support from our community in the National Capital Region ensure that Opera Lyra Ottawa's professionally staged operas are on par with Canada's best. We have much reason to be proud of our past accomplishments, and along with our many patrons we will continue to hold high expectations for our future. We look forward to continuing to deliver the magic of opera right here in our Nation's capital, sharing this great art form with our existing and future audience members.
