A perennial favourite, Hansel and Gretel tells the story of a brother and sister, who, sent to play in the forest by their mother, find themselves lost and forced to spend the night deep in the woods. When they awake the next morning, the children see a gingerbread house which they approach hoping for something to eat. The Witch casts a spell over Hansel and tries to entice Gretel into her giant oven. Gretel succeeds in releasing Hansel from the spell and together they trick the Witch into looking in the oven and when she does, they quickly push her inside. The oven explodes and all the ‘gingerbread’ children are free!
Featuring artists of the OLO Opera Studio and accompanied by piano, Hansel and Gretel is performed at the NAC 4th Stage for families and elementary schools in October 2010 and, during the first two weeks in November, the production will be on the road touring schools in the region.
