THE BARBER OF BYTOWN - a madcap opers for kids and families!
Adapted by Ann Hodges

Opera Lyra Ottawa premieres a special adaptation of The Barber of Seville by Gioachino Rossini for Ottawa/Gatineau audiences called The Barber of Bytown. This madcap production, sung in English, is aimed at elementary school students and their families. It features artists from the Opera Lyra Opera Studio, a program that prepares young Canadian singers for successful careers in opera. Colourful sets, costumes and piano accompaniment. Lively Q& A with cast follows every performance.

It’s Rossini revisited!! The Barber of Bytowntakes Figaro from his usual home in Seville, Spain, to Porcupine Lake, Ontario, at the turn of the 20th century. The Porcupine Gold Rush is on and prospectors seek and lose their fortunes as Figaro, a barber and jack-of-all-trades, endeavours to bring the young Al together with his lady love Rosie despite the devious dealings of the dastardly innkeeper, Bart.
